Corporate automotive showroom commission requiring 1200 sqm high-pigment decorative metallic epoxy for vehicle display floors. Epoxy GH coordinated substrate engineering and statement metallic-pigment specification.

Project Profile

A premier automotive group commissioned a complete performance floor installation across their new Airport City Accra facility — a flagship showroom designed to carry international brand standards while contending with the operational realities of a high-traffic commercial district. The project demanded a floor system capable of performing under vehicular load, chemical exposure, and the sustained visual scrutiny of a specification-grade retail environment.

Specification Challenge

Airport City Accra presents a demanding site context. The facility sits within an active commercial and diplomatic corridor where visual benchmarks are set by multinational headquarters and premium hospitality assets. The client’s international brand guidelines specified reflectivity thresholds, anti-slip ratings, and chemical resistance standards that left no room for compromise.

The showroom floor would carry vehicle display loads across polished showroom bays while the adjacent workshop would face daily exposure to hydraulic fluid, engine oil, and cleaning solvents. The client reception corridor required a transition between the high-gloss showroom aesthetic and the functional workshop zone — seamless in appearance, distinct in performance specification.

Works were also required to proceed while the service workshop remained partially operational, compressing the installation window and demanding strict containment discipline between active and inactive zones.

Approach

Our specification team conducted a substrate condition survey prior to mobilisation, identifying moisture variance across the slab sections — a common challenge in Airport City builds where construction timelines compress curing periods. Surface preparation included mechanical grinding and crack remediation to bring the substrate within tolerance before any system application.

The showroom bays received a high-build solvent-free epoxy system with a mirror-finish topcoat — delivering the reflectivity the brand standard required without sacrificing the slip-resistance threshold mandated for public retail floor areas. Vehicle display zones were marked using inlaid resin banding rather than surface-applied paint, ensuring the branding geometry would not degrade under repositioning traffic.

The workshop received a chemical-resistant epoxy screed with anti-fatigue profiling, specified to withstand the full range of automotive workshop fluids across a projected service life of twelve or more years. The parts storage area was finished with a slip-rated industrial system, colour-coded to support the facility’s internal logistics protocol.

The reception corridor transition was resolved using a custom gradient specification — moving from gloss to semi-gloss to matte across a 4-metre transitional zone, achieving visual continuity while shifting the performance profile underfoot.

Outcome

The completed installation delivered measurable alignment with the client’s international brand floor specification — confirmed at practical completion inspection. The phased programme finished within the contracted 18 working days with zero incursion into the operational workshop zone. No rework was required across any of the four application areas.

The showroom floor has since sustained two full years of vehicle display operations, dealer events, and daily foot traffic without visible degradation to the topcoat.

What This Project Demonstrates

Premium automotive retail is one of the most exacting floor specification environments in the commercial sector. The showroom floor is simultaneously a brand surface, a structural working platform, and a client experience element. Projects of this type demonstrate the requirement for a floor specialist who can operate across aesthetic, structural, and chemical performance parameters within a single, coordinated specification — and deliver without disruption to live operations.
